This free, two-day course on self-defense and state of mind is one Hilliard Police’s most popular community programs. It focuses on prevention strategies with self-defense options that can be used as a last resort if you were attacked. Women are taught to pay attention to their surroundings, be assertive and vigilant, and follow their gut instinct to say no — even if it means appearing “rude.” Participants also learn a variety of physical moves, including kicks, elbow jabs and techniques to wiggle from an attacker’s grasp. Instructors are Hilliard police officers. Class is free and for women only age 15 and older. Must attend both nights of the class.

This literature-based class highlights a children’s story each day using a variety of activities, including nature, creative dramatics, music and movement, mathematics, and manipulatives. Children must be potty trained. Advance registration is required.

Would your son or daughter know what to do if the child they were babysitting started to choke? Would they know what to do if they were taking care of several children and someone came to the door? Does your child babysit younger siblings? Better Babysitters teaches the responsibilities of having a job, the Rights of a Baby Sitter, CPR for a child and infant, basic first aid, growth and development, and appropriate toys and activities for kids. They also learn diaper changing, infant care, and how to feed a toddler. Students will receive a fully stocked First Aid kit, a student manual and certificate of completion.

Science, technology, engineering, and math projects will all be explored at the 2026 summer camp with new and returning popular activities. Students should be prepared to spend time both inside and outside each day for rotating sessions. Students should bring a water bottle and inform staff of any dietary restrictions and allergies. Snacks will be provided.
