Level Objectives
Appropriate safe entry
- Students will enter the pool safely and know when it is safe to enter the water.
Flutter kick 50 yards in streamline
- Students can use a kick board or noodle. Must also have mouth, nose and face submerged with proper breath control
Flutter kick 50 yards in streamline on back
- Students can use a kick board or noodle.
Dolphin kick 12.5 yards assisted
- Students can use a kickboard or noodle. Students are introduced to the kick used for butterfly. Must keep legs together.
Intro to circle swimming
- Students will learn how to share a single lane to continuously swim.
Freestyle 50 yards w/ side breath
- Students combine flutter kicks and freestyle arms to swim 50 yards uninterrupted.
Backstroke 50 yards
- Students use the appropriate arm position for backstroke and combine flutter kicks to swim 50 yards, uninterrupted.
Sidekick 25 yards
- Students are positioned on their side horizontally with one arm extended “glued” to their ear and other arm “glued” to their side. Small, fast flutter kicks.
Breaststroke 25 yards
- Students will be introduced to breaststroke arm movements and combine with the breaststroke kick to swim 25 yards.
Treading (60 seconds)
- Keeping fingers together students move arms back and forth at the surface of the water and bicycle kick in a vertical position. Chin, mouth, and nose should remain above the water.
